Ipega 9023 and Ipega 9021

The Ipega-9023 and -9021 are essentially video game controllers designed to be used with your smart device. The growing reliance on our smartphones for entertainment has sparked new life into casual gaming among its users. It’s not a stretch to assume that the smartphone industry holds a big chunk of casual gamers in the market.

I personally own the Ipega 9023, here's my initial review for it:

The design of the 9021 mimics the Xbox360 controller while the 9023 sports a more original build. Don’t worry; the controllers are fairly ergonomic as they’re inspired by previously successful designs still being used today. Apart from aesthetic difference, they also fit different sized devices. The 9023 is made to fit large screens smartphones and tablets up to 10.1 inches (Our testing reveals a maximum stretch of 10.4 inches) and the 9021 is better used with smartphones up to 6 inches of size (some have managed to fit in 6.4 inches).

The materials aren’t necessarily premium, but when you compare their prices and consider functionality (Especially true for the 9023) to other similar products- the value more than makes up for it.

The controllers will connect via Bluetooth to your device. To pair the controller with IOS devices, you’ll need to connect it in “icade” mode- but as of now, native game support is very low (Unless paired with a jailbroken device). On the Android side of things, both controllers are natively compatible with Android 3.2 and above due to Android’s open source nature. The Ipega supports a variety of native Android games and it works marvelously on gaming console emulators found on the Android Playstore- imagine playing Mario or Crash bandicoot on your smart device paired with one of these bad boys.

The controller is tremendously useful for adventure games (Zenonia and Final Fantasy), first person shooters (Dead Trigger and Modern Combat 4), and fighting games (Soul Caliber)-basically it will benefit any game that requires precision controls. Another useful feature is the ability to map the controllers with console emulators which can be downloaded from the Android Playstore. If you didn’t already know, our devices are so powerful that they can now emulate gaming consoles. To put that into perspective, a PSP emulator exists for Android. That means your Android device (Depending on its specifications) can run PSP games on it. This is also somewhat true for IOS users.

Should you buy this? If you’re a retro gamer who spends time playing emulators on your smart device or find yourself playing games that need precision controls like the games we’ve mentioned earlier then this controller will be surely enhance your gaming experience.
